Partisan Review and the Crises of War

To investigate the magazine, Partisan Review, the people associated with it, and the intellectual, political, and literary disputes in which they were involved during the period from 1937 to 194-3. This period includes the reappearance after a one-year hiatus of Partisan Review, formerly affiliated with the Communist Party, as a vocal anti-Stalinist journal. During these years, Partisan Review agonized over the problem of the radical's proper position relative to the developing world conflict. By 194-3, Partisan had moved to a position of support for the war effort and U.S. foreign policy, giving up some of its claim to radicalism.
