Edition of Johann Kuhnau's Novel: Schmied seines eigenen Ungluckes

To produce a scholarly edition of the late 17th century German novel, Der Schmidd seines eiganen Ungluckes. Two copies remained at the beginning of WWII; one has been destroyed and one has been located in the University of Marburg library. A facsimile edition, with bibliography, commentary, a biography of the author, a section dealing with obscure words in the text and a section correcting presumed misprints will be published by Peter Lang Verlag (Bern). The novel's importance transcends its prominence in the field of the late Baroque novel. It will interest scholars in its sociological insights into the middle and lower classes of the period.
