The Cantatas of George Frederic Handel

To complete research for a book on Handel's cantatas, which number about one hundred. The cantatas are an important gap in Handelian studies. They are the least known of Handel's works, yet their composition occupied the crucial period between his Germanic training and his professional career in England. For the rest of his life, Handel drew on material from these cantatas for his later works. Author will present a complete chronology of the cantatas, analyze the variants which exist only in manuscript, and discuss the important inter-cantata borrowings which are little known. A complete list of sources for each cantata will be given, along with a supplement of full-length musical examples.
