Land and Credit in an East African Town

Project is an on-going quantitative analysis of records of land sales and mortgages in the Kenyan town of Mombasa from 1891-1919. Study will show the changing patterns of land usage and values during a crucial period of transition in Kenya's economy. Although land has been an important political and scholarly issue in Africa, no systematic statistical analysis such as this has ever been conducted.
