Beaumarchais and the Bastille: An Inadvertant Aristocrat in Revolutionary Paris
I am seeking an NEH summer stipend to support additional archival and library research and writing time during the months of May through July 2008, for a book on the competing representations of Pierre Augustin-Caron Beaumarchais during the French Revolution. This book will not be a biography; it will instead analyze the representation of his experiences through original, archival research on Beaumarchais's Parisian real estate. The goal is a scholarly work with broad appeal to humanists and lay readers.
