U.S. Citizenship in the 21st Century

Planning of four public program modules to promote community discussion of major topics relating to citizenship in the 21st century.

The American Bar Association Division for Public Education, in cooperation with the American Library Association, proposes to develop a series of public program modules on the theme U.S. Citizenship in the 21st Century for use in public libraries and other community venues. Through this theme, diverse audiences will explore the evolution of legal and societal constructs of citizenship in the context of the United States Constitution, including historic trends such as changing conceptions of American self- identity, and contemporary ideals and challenges, such as globalization and political pressures on immigration policy.
