Third Annual Dennis Farm Symposium and Interpretive Site Planning Meeting

Plans for the October 7, 2015 symposium to emphasize the history of the 200+ year old Dennis Farm and the family. It consists of two components, a public program and a meeting of invited scholars, museum professionals, preservationists and heritage site consultants who will help develop an interpretive plan for the 153-acre site. The public program and tours of the Dennis Farm  will take place the following day using Henry Dennis’ life (1815-1882) as the point of departure, three speakers will explore the experiences of free African Americans in the North- specifically from New England- from the colonial period through the late 19th century. The families of Henry Dennis and his wife (whose grandfather founded the farm) were from New England before settling in Pennsylvania. The symposium concludes with the dedication of an official Commonwealth of Pennsylvania historical marker at the entrance to the farm and tours of the site.
