The Best Years of Their Lives
To produce a feature length documentary, intended for an adult audience, in theatres, on public TV and in educational settings concerning the sweep of experience of a human generation nearing its last years. Group to be explored is the radicalized generation of the 1930s, those who decided they wanted a fundamentally different society and wanted it badly enough to devote their lives to the struggle for it. This generation came of age during the Great Depression. Around them millions were taking to the streets in demonstrations larger than any during the Vietnam War; unorganized workers, blacks, the unemployed and farmers near ruin. In the 40s they helped solidify the trade union movement and fought against fascism.
