Oregon Humanities (Portland, OR 97205-2827)
Adam Davis (Project Director: June 2015 to present)

Power and Place: A Year-long Project by Oregon Humanities

Implementation of 24 community discussions, a one-day public symposium, and numerous public programs all exploring issues of place, home, and belonging across Oregon.

Power and Place is a comprehensive statewide project exploring the theme through twenty-four community discussions, a one-day training for scholar-facilitators and community partners, a one-day public symposium, a Think & Drink event, a conversation toolkit, three issues of Oregon Humanities' nationally recognized magazine and an associated short video. We will marshal all of these vehicles to help Oregonians think and talk with one another about the love for, loss of, and fight for place, home, and belonging. Our goals with this project are to do the following: 1) foster sustained public conversations about ideas critical to our daily lives and to our state’s future, 2)encourage Oregonians to be more informed and engaged in the civic activity of their communities, 3) cultivate the practice of talking and listening to those with whom we may disagree, and 4) provide ongoing access to vital educational resources, as well as creative tools for civic engagement and public dialogue.
