Darwin's Garden: An Evolutionary Adventure

Implementation of a traveling exhibition examining Charles Darwin's contributions to botany, scientific inquiry, and humanity's fundamental understanding of nature.

The New York Botanical Garden seeks an implementation grant of $400,000 toward the $1.4 million cost of Darwin's Garden's: An Evolutionary Adventure, which will celebrate Charles Darwin's incalcualable contributions to natural history, scientific inquiry, and humanity's fundamental conception of Nature and its place in the world. This multi-element exhibition will bring the untold story of Darwin's lifelong fascination and work with plants to light through a scholarly exhibition in the Mertz Library Gallery, a complementary living plant display in the Haupt Conservatory, and a special children's exhibition, display gardens, and how-to learning activities. Complementary public programming will convey the historical and cultural context in which Darwin undertook his pioneering work, as well as his enduring influence on science, society, and the arts. The exhibit will travel to the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in Pasadena, California.
