Rehousing Archival Collections
The purchase of preservation supplies to rehouse books, scrapbooks, photographs, and maps related to local history.
The library’s Local History Room houses a unique collection of rare books, photographs, local maps and postcards. The items preserve some of the history of Somerset and Morris counties as well that of the Borough of Bernardsville, a town steeped in rich history. A conservator’s evaluation of the materials housed in the Local History Room via the state Historical Commission’s Caucus Archival Projects Evaluation (CAPES) stated specific preservation needs to prevent further deterioration of the items. Funding is not available in the library’s budget to meet these needs. This funding request is for the basic supplies recommended in that CAPES evaluation as necessary to maintain and preserve this collection.
