University of Delaware Delegation to Visit Cultural Heritage Institutions in Cuba

The University of Delaware requests a NEH Chairman's Grant of $30,000 to support a delegation to Cuba of art conservation students and professors in the Department of Art Conservation. The trip would be led by Debra Hess Norris, Henry Francis DuPont Chair of Fine Arts, and Director of the Winterthur Museum/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation, as well as Dr. Jocelyn Alcantara-Garda, a research scientist in conservation and a native Spanish speaker. Professor Norris and Dr. Alcantara-Garda will assemble a group of five current and recent graduates of the art conservation program for a four-to five-day trip with a focus on photograph collections and preventive conservation. This diverse approach will offer students and recent graduates the opportunity to learn about Cuban cultural heritage and observe conservation treatment practices in that country.
