Education and Training for Moving Image Specialists

Scholarships through New York University's Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program for up to 24 internships at cultural heritage institutions located in the New York metropolitan region and nationwide.

The Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts is requesting funds to offer financial support to students while they perform internships in important humanities collections. This funding will place 24 students in 24 internships in the next two years. Historians, educators, and researchers in a variety of disciplines ranging from anthropology, cultural studies, and literature to communications theory and philosophy, rely on audiovisual collections. However, most moving image collections are still largely neglected, deteriorating, and facing imminent loss. As one of only a few graduate programs in the world focused on training audiovisual archivists, MIAP is preparing future professionals to cope with the transition of older media to digital formats, and to ensure that audiovisual materials are accessible. Internships contribute to the students' education and to the internship sites' efforts to make collections available.
