Dance Theatre of Harlem Planning Grant for DTH Archival Preservation Plan

The commissioning and delivery of a comprehensive preservation plan that will assess and identify cost-effective, energy-efficient solutions for the optimal preservation environment and conditions for on-site archival materials in the Everett Center for the Performing Arts, which holds the Dance Theatre of Harlem's collections on the history of modern dance in the United States. An additional $9,000 will support upgrades to the current Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system and to the lighting.

Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) requests a $40,000 planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections program to engage a team of professional consultants to develop a Preservation Plan for the DTH Archives. We are also requesting an additional $9,000 to begin implementing a few catalytic recommendations from the preservation plan. The preservation consultant, architect and engineer will work with DTH and Dance Heritage Coalition (DHC) staff to develop a comprehensive Preservation Plan that would properly assess the physical structure of the places where archival materials are kept, examine existing environmental conditions, and develop sustainable preservation solutions for the archive collection as well as provide recommendations for expanding access to the collection.
