Environmental Monitoring Equipment and Training for the Monhegan Museum

The purchase of equipment to monitor environmental conditions and improve the care of collections that document the history of the Monhegan Light Station and Monhegan Island. The collections range from material culture collections that reflect the history of Native Americans who used the island as a seasonal fishing post to works of art by such artists as Robert Henri, Edward Redfield, George Bellows, Edward Hopper, and others who were part of Monhegan Island's art colony.

Funding will support the purchase of environmental monitoring equipment to gauge the humidity, temperature and light levels in historic buildings housing artwork, photographs, documents, books, textiles, and other objects related to the history of Monhegan Island. A conservator will train the museum staff in the use of the monitoring equipment and interpretation of data collected.
