Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education Preservation Training

Training for staff and volunteers in collections care, as well as purchasing environmental monitoring equipment and rehousing supplies for a diverse collection, approximately 40 cubic feet in size, of artwork, correspondence, oral histories, photographs, and ephemera pertaining to genocide and human rights issues from around the world. Most of the items have been donated from Holocaust survivors and are used for research and public programming, including a concentration camp cook book, a promotion notification signed by Adolf Hitler, a blanket given to Polish slave laborers in Germany made from wool and human hair, letters and postcards, headscarves worn in Bergen-Belsen, diaries, and suitcases. The Center reaches over 13,000 students annually with traveling exhibits at schools, libraries, and museums throughout New Jersey.

Phase II of preservation effort: To train the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education (Chhange) staff and volunteers in proper preservation and archiving techniques and procedures by employing a part-time archivist so that the artifacts from local Holocaust survivors and other donors can be displayed and made available to researchers at Chhange, and for loan to museums, libraries and religious institutions and government agencies.
