Minnesota Historical Society (St. Paul, MN 55102-1903)
Jennifer Jones (Project Director: 01/12/2015 to present)

Minnesota Digital Newspaper Project, Phase Four

The digitization of 100,000 pages of historic Minnesota newspapers published between 1836 and 1922 as part of the state's participation in the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP).

The Minnesota Historical Society requests $302,900 to digitize 100,000 pages of Minnesota newspapers from the period 1836-1922, as part of the National Endowment for the Humanities' National Digital Newspaper Project. The project will take two years, from September 2015-August 2017. At the end of the project, the Society will transfer to the Library of Congress all digital files, essays, required metadata and duplicate microfilm, per the specifications of the grant. The Society holds the largest collection of Minnesota newspapers of any repository, represented by over 4000 titles. The collection is especially important because of Minnesota's role as a cultural and economic center in the Upper Midwest and its historical significance in the economic development of the entire Northwest. The Society will adhere faithfully to technical guidelines and standards of the NDNP and the Library of Congress; these will continue to be the framework for the work plan.
