Yale Judaica Series

Continued grant to subsidize translating and editorial costs for three volumes of Yale Judaica Series. Series devoted to scholarly-critical translations of works in Hebrew, Aramaic, Ethiopic and releated languages, classics fundamental to understanding Judaism, Christianity, Islam. Continuation of work under previous grants (RO-34-70-3832, RO-25-69-3184) on Book II, Code of Maimonides, and Ibn Shahim's Book of Comfort. Code is magnum opus of greatest Jewish intellectual and scientific figure, has pivotal significance in systemization of biblical and tamudic law and jurisprudence; also enormous influence on history of codification. Book of Comfort contains medieval rabbinic folklore. Works provide background, historical and philosophical data on fundamental religious heritages of this country. Material heretofore unavailable except in original languages.
