Uses of the Humanities in Scientific and Technological Decision

To assist the establishment of a unit for Applied Humanities within the Program for Science, Technology and Society. The unit will enlist humanists, in collaboration with scientists and social scientists, in applying the distinctive approaches and methods of the humanities to problems of pressing social concern, especially those due to the pervasive influence of science and technology. The academic program will focus upon problems corrected with rational decision-making, with special attention to the "limits of calculative rationality" and related theoretical issues of the philosophy of the humanities.
