THE BOOK OF LU PU-WEI

To translate a book of ancient Chinese wisdom compiled by Lu Pu-wei in 239 B.C. The author was a prime minister who assigned various topics to a group of scholars, asking them to set down their ideas. Topics included "all things under Heaven," among them "why there have been periods of peace and of disorder, why the rise and fall of states what causes long life and premature death," etc. Most of the essays represent the Taoist-Confucian ideal of government by non-interference, which has come to be accepted by statesmen ever since.
