A TRANSLATION AND STUDY OF NICHOLAS OF CUSA'S MAJOR TREATISE, DE DOCTA IGNORAN.

To translate Nicholas de Cusa's major intellectual achievement, On Learned Ignorance. This text is crucial to the understanding of that transitional period of the Renaissance which led from Scholastic philosophy to the 'Modern' school of the Giordano Bruno and Copernicus. The Metaphysical background of the work has been widely misunderstood, and these speculative origins of physical theory will be clarified in the English translation. Also included will be translations of the attack on Nicholas by Johannes Wenck (De Iqnoto Litteratura) together with Nicholas reply (Apologia Docta Ignorantia). This debate shed important light upon Nichos' intent in the philosophical program in De Docta Ignorantia.
