The Economist in Parliament, 1728-1868

To examine role played by economists in Parliament between 1782-1868, covering career of every economist elected to Parliament during that time. ABSTRACT: To examine role played by economists in Parliament between 1782-1868, covering career of every economist elected to Parliament during that time. Expected result is a book giving clear picture of how each individual became member of parliament; their Parliamentary positions on economic and non-economic problems; the extent to which they had common views, both on economic and non-economic issues; the extent to which they had views differing from other Parliamentary members; and the influence they had as members on Parliamentary legislation. Will use primary sources, such as speeches and writing records, contemporary pamphlets, periodicals, newspapers and manuscripts materials, both in England and America. Significant study of relation between development of economic and 19th century liberalism, contribution made by economist between ideas and action thus, significant for understanding some current national problems by concretely detailing role of economist in national decision-making. Funds for salaries, typing, supplies, travel, per diem.
