Youth and Black Power in the Caribbean and the United States

To product book based on recent research and field-work in Caribbean, relating current independence of these largely black countries, their leadershhip, education, social anc economic history, to Black in US who shrae their history and culture. Link between Caribbean and US often overlooked, but connections are important part of search for cultural identity going on presently among American Negroes. Purpose is to show similarities and contrasts in aim and motivation of youth and black power movements in US and in Caribbean countries; to show how West Indians are trying to acquire individual and national identities. Will include much material on the University of the West Indies, a center of strudent unrest in the Caribbean. First comparative study of this type. Material for this project will be accumulated through taped interviews, collection of resources, consultation with scholars, educators, students and American Peace Corps officials in form British West Indies and US.
