ABSTRACT: Funds to support research and travel for study of the attorneys who participate critically in the judicial process by preparing the constitutional and statutory interpretations from among which the justices of the US Supreme Court choose and decide which cases presented to them to hear. Scholarly inquiries into the decision-making processes of the Court have not yet included a systematic survey of the professional functions of lawyers working within the precincts of the Court. Study will trace historically, development of the Supreme Court Bar; impact of changes in American legal profession upon processes of Court litigation; nature of transactions between bench and appelate bar; roles of law school and film in development of professional specialization. Study of social structure of Supreme Court of value in furthering understanding of the Court and the law, as well as American history. Overload of courts vital issue today. Will contribute to understanding of docket managment, propose changes.
