Survey of "medium-density, low-rise" housing built during the last 10 years in England and Northern Europe and a chronological record of growth and change in selected urban centers. ABSTRACT: Survey of "medium-density, low-rise" housing built during the last 10 years in England and Northern Europe and a chronological record of growth and change in selected urban centers, with particular emphasis on cities in the Netherlands and Rhine Valley. Housing to be studied was designed and built with open space having the primary role of interrelating all other physical elements (buildings, access roads, walkways, ect.). Purpose of study to achieve a better understanding of the role of open space in the planning and design process and to reconsider its priorities in the planning and design of housing as one of the means of improving the quality of urban life. Publication, when it appears, will be aimed particularly at the layman. Funds for research, travel and documentation and full summer salary.
