To examine in depth the political career of William Bourke Cockran (1854-1923), a New York Congressman and lawyer, and intermittenly a Democratic party leader from 1880 until his death. Cockran's fame during his lifetime was derived from his acclaim as a orator as well as the significant role he played in most major N.Y. state and national political struggles.
