Social and Political History of the First Carlist

To write a social and political history of the Carlist War in Spain (1833-39), in which conservative peasants fought against political liberalism, centralization and the disentailment of church and communal lands. To examine the issues and appeals used to rally peasants to the Carlist movement and the chracteristics of their socio-economic environment, religious practices, and way of life that made them respond to such appeals.
