Geographic Differentiation in Coterritorial Societies

A comparative study designed to yield a Language and Culture Atlas of Asheknaszi Jewry. The two societies are the Jewish and the diverse non-Jewish populations that coexisted in Central and Eastern Europe until World War II. The facts concerning Jewish folk culture and the Yiddish dialects of these areas are now on hand and Volume I of the Atlas is being readied for publication in 1972. To permit the continued editorial processing of the accumulated linguistic and ethnographic data, its analysis for cartographic representation, and the preparation of manuscript maps for publication in three additional volumes of the Atlas.
