Critical Edition of the Works of Giuseppe Verdi
The preparation of a critical edition of the works of Giuseppe Verdi. (24 months)
The preparation of a critical edition of The Works of Giuseppe Verdi is a major international scholarly undertaking. The complete edition will comprise 31 volumes of operas and six volumes of Verdi's other works. Thirteen works in the edition will have been published by Spring 2007 as well as twelve piano-vocal scores based on the edition. The critical edition has been used as the basis for a number of performances in major opera houses. The NEH has generously provided support for the edition from the beginning, and the current application requests further funding to support editorial development work on the next volumes. Several volumes will be in active stages of preparation, notably Giovanna d'Arco, Chamber Music, La forza del destino, Aroldo, Un ballo in maschera, and Attila.
