Records of Early English Drama: Publication of Collections in Monograph and Digital Platforms

Editing and preparation for publication in the Records of Early English Drama of three to four volumes for Civic London to 1558; preparation for electronic publication of the records of the counties of Staffordshire and Salisbury. (24 months)

During the past 37 years, the Records of Early English Drama (REED) project has published 27 collections in 33 print volumes of primary source documents that record theatrical performances from early modern Britain through the closing of the theaters in 1642. A grant from National Endowment for the Humanities would support the next phase of the project, enabling us: 1) to bring to publication three and possibly four volumes for Civic London to 1558, edited by Dr. Anne Lancashire; 2) to publish the next provincial collection, the county of Staffordshire, edited by Dr. J.A.B. Somerset; and 3) to prepare the Salisbury collection, edited by Dr. Audrey Douglas. The latter two projects will also reflect our commitment to editing collections that will be produced as dynamic born-digital publications for access online, a format that REED has been moving toward in deliberate steps for the past few years.
