To investigate the way in, which the Chinese maintained social autonomy while becoming increasingly involved in the economy of Idaho during the period 1865-1920. The combined approach of the historian and the anthropologist will be used to investigate changes in the adaptation of the Chinese throughout Idaho, while concentrating on the Boise area as expressive of a regional pattern common throughout the northwest.
