The RIGVEDA: Translation and Explanatory Notes

An English translation of the RIGVEDA, an ancient Indian religious text, with explanatory notes and a general introduction.

The RIGVEDA is the oldest text of India and has had a central position in the study of Indic religion, comparative religion, and Indo-European linguistics and culture. It is a collection of liturgical hymns addressing the gods of the early Vedic tradition. Despite the significance of the text, there currently exists no satisfactory translation in English, or, arguably, in any European language. This project is to complete an English translation of the RIGVEDA, together with a general introduction, introductions to its hymns and hymnic cycles, explanatory notes, and an overview of the text, the context, the ritual, and the religion of the RIGVEDA.
