Translation: The Zuo Tradition on the Spring and Autumn Annals

A new English translation with a full scholarly introduction and notes of the ZUO TRADITION ON THE SPRING AND AUTUMN ANNALS (ZUOZHUAN), China's first great work of historical writing. (16 months)

The Zuo Tradition on the Spring and Autumn Annals (Zuozhuan) is China's first great work of history. The longest and one of the most difficult texts surviving from pre-imperial times, it has been as important in the founding and preservation of Chinese culture as the historical books of the Hebrew Bible have been in the Jewish and Christian traditions. Our translation, accompanied by the original text, will make the Zuozhuan accessible, with full scholarly introduction and notes, to a wide public, including specialists in Chinese history, scholars of world history and comparative intellectual history, new graduate students and undergraduates, and general readers.
