Who Will Write Our History

Development of a 90-minute documentary about the secret Oyneg Shabes archive of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Katahdin Productions requests $74,907 for ongoing research and scholar consultation, filmed scholar interviews and scripting of Who Will Write Our History, a 90-minute documentary film about Emanuel Ringelblum and the secret archive of the Warsaw Ghetto that was his creation. Ringelblum’s Oyneg Shabes Archives is regarded among historians as an extraordinary achievement of scholarly self-study in the very depths of hell—the 30,000 pages of documents including diaries, essays, poems, letters, newspapers, stolen Judenrat records, official Nazi pronouncements and much more, are considered the most important cache of contemporaneous documents to survive the Holocaust—they are the Dead Sea Scrolls rising from the rubble of the Ghetto. And yet, the Oyneg Shabes Archive remains unknown outside of academic circles. This film will change that, in the way that only a film can do, by making the story accessible to millions of people around the world.
