Nasser: An Egyptian Story

Development of a 90-minute documentary film about Gamal Abdel Nasser, the iconic Egyptian figure who overthrew his king and liberated his country from British rule.

"Nasser, An Egyptian Story" is a 90-minute documentary about Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian who led a coup against his king, liberated his country from British domination, and ruled from 1952 to 1970. During these pivotal years he became an iconic figure: Americans saw him as a strongman who brought the world to the brink of nuclear war, but for Arabs he stood for a new personal dignity and national sovereignty. Today America is deeply and painfully entangled in the Middle East, making the need for public understanding of this region greater than ever. Nasser?s story illuminates all of the major cross-currents of modern Middle Eastern history, including anti-colonialism, the rise of authoritarianism, the repression of Islamism, and the dream of a united Arab polity.
