Guangzhou Dream Factory
Production of a one-hour documentary film examining the African community taking root in Guangzhou, China, and the resulting tensions and cross-cultural exchange.
Guangzhou Dream Factory is an hour-long documentary portrait of the flourishing African community of Guangzhou, southern China's bustling commercial center. The documentary, designed for a wide, general audience, will be produced in HD for U.S. television, international broadcasters, film festivals, classroom, and home-video use. Guangzhou's burgeoning African community is one of the most interesting yet least examined manifestations of the growing ties between China and Africa. The ancestral homeland of many Chinese-Americans, Guangzhou was long associated with exodus. Today, however, the world is changing: Guangzhou is increasingly a migration destination, with Africans accounting for a significant percentage of the city's new immigrants. Following the compelling stories of Africans pursuing their dreams in a new land of opportunity, Guangzhou Dream Factory provides a window into life in China's African Diaspora.
