Home Stories

A digital storytelling project, Home Stories, and associated programming with migrant youth and their families. At the end of each school semester there will be a community screening of the filmed stories produced, and the stories will be then housed on a public website.

Home Stories extends the ongoing University of Maryland Arts and Humanities Social Innovation Scholars (SIS) program, launched by the Arts and Humanities Center for Synergy as a three semester course and practical experience in publicly engaged humanistic work. In Home Stories, SIS undergraduates will begin to work with Professor Ana Patricia Rodriguez, Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese and U.S. Latina/o Studies, to conduct a digital storytelling project and associated programming with migrant youth and their families. Using the constructs and methods of the humanities, migrant youth (whom we refer to as newcomers) from a local middle and high school will be empowered to write and produce their stories in digital formats and to participate in film screenings and discussion with their families and communities.
