Title: Audiovisual Cataloging with PBCore

Abstract: Audiovisual Cataloging with PBCore is a five-session course, developed with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, that is designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of the PBCore metadata schema and its usage in cataloging audiovisual materials. Each hourlong session will consist of a half-hour lecture focusing on one aspect of PBCore, followed by a hands-on exercise. Participants will have the option to complete material for review by the instructor in between sessions and submit their own case studies for consideration and discussion in the class. The online course includes these topics: Introduction: Concepts in Audiovisual Metadata PBCore Structure PBCore Controlled Vocabularies Using the PBCore Cataloging Tool PBCore Mappings and Database Modelings By the end of the course, participants will have: - learned about the significant characteristics of audiovisual materials - described materials in PBCore - created XML records using the PBCore cataloging tool - discussed real-world methodologies for implementing PBCore in the context of archival systems
